Although the Salem region is known for its award-winning wines it also produces spectacular craft beers. Hops grow extremely well in the Willamette Valley with the cool climate and fertile soil. The region is known as the “breadbasket” of Oregon because of its rich soil and moderate climate. Here are a few breweries to try:

Xicha (chee-cha) is the Pacific Northwest’s only Latinx brewery. European ales and lagers are created here with food in mind, with each beer having a recommended food pairing.

Hand-crafted pilsners, IPAs and porters, Shades of Brew creates very small batches that can only be tasted in the taproom. The draft selection is constantly rotating.

B2 Taphouse & Brewery is a family-friendly taphouse and restaurant and brewery. Indoor and outdoor seating and dog friendly. Try the “Dark Side of the Boone” or “Frogs on Rollerskates” they are tasty and will not disappoint.

Benedictine Brewery & St. Michael Taproom is one of three breweries in the United States that is owned and operated by monks. Monks have been brewing beer since the early Middle Ages and the beer brewed at the Benedictine Brewery follows the early monastic tradition and is “crafted for a higher purpose”. It’s likely the only beer in the US that receives a blessing at every stage, from raising the hops to pulling the tap.
