Gallery Talk: Amalia Amaki
November 4, 12:30pm
Dr. Amalia Amaki, an independent artist, researcher, writer, curator, and lecturer, will offer a walking tour of the exhibition.
Over the course of thirty-five years, Kerry, a retired postal worker, and Betty, a former television news producer, made art their principal luxury, gladly forgoing many ordinary comforts to fill their home with extraordinary works. Their collection includes paintings, sculptures, prints, and drawings by renowned artists such as Romare Bearden, Elizabeth Catlett, Sam Gilliam, Jacob Lawrence, Samella Lewis, and Charles White. The result is a vibrant, eclectic collection that reflects the African diaspora in all its diversity—works that weave together cultural narratives, history, and deeply personal stories.
